Stay safe when buying and selling

Most people on SwatiList are honest. A few simple habits protect you from the rest.

For buyers

• Meet in a busy public place during the day, such as a shopping centre or bank.
• See and test the item before you pay. For cars, check papers and ask a mechanic.
• Never pay a deposit by MoMo, eMali or bank transfer to someone you have not met.
• For rentals, view the property in person and confirm who the owner or agent is.
• Be careful of prices that are far too good to be true.

For sellers

• Confirm money has actually cleared before handing over goods.
• Beware of fake payment SMS messages and buyers who "overpay" and ask for change.
• Bring someone with you when meeting a buyer.
